Hand baggage or carry-on baggage is baggage that passengers are allowed to take on board in the aircraft cabin.
To be carried in the cabin of the aircraft with you, this baggage must:
- fit under the seat in front of you or in a designated enclosed baggage storage compartment;
- comply with our Conditions of Carriage
- comply with applicable laws and security measures including those imposed by airports; and
- not exceed the allowances mentioned hereunder;
Note:
If your baggage meets the above requirements, but we reasonably believe that it is not safe for your baggage to be carried as hand baggage, we may require you to check it in.
For your own safety and comfort, the number and size of baggage you may carry into the cabin is limited. Air Mauritius policy with respect to cabin baggage is as hereunder:

In addition we will also accept:
- A handbag, pocket or purse (which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and which is not being used as a container for articles which otherwise could be regarded as baggage).
- An overcoat, wrap or blanket.
- An umbrella or walking stick.
- A laptop or a small camera and/or binoculars.
- A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
- Infant’s food for consumption in flight.
- Infant’s carrying basket.
- A fully collapsible invalid’s wheelchair and/or a pair of crutches and/or braces providing the passenger is dependent on them.(either in hold or cabin as space permits)
- A reasonable quantity of duty free purchases.

Items classified as dangerous goods under IATA regulations and specified at check-in time will not be accepted into hand baggage.
All cabin baggage and their contents shall be subjected to screening before being accepted on board our aircraft.
Items with protruding, sharp or jagged edges and other items that which might cause injury to passengers or staff, or damage to other baggage will not be accepted in cabin baggage.
Special rules apply for liquids, aerosol & gels; you may only carry these in your hand baggage in small amounts not exceeding 100 ml (3.4oz) per article. They must be placed in a transparent and sealable plastic bag with a volume of no more than 1 litre. The bag must be closed and the articles must fit inside it easily. One transparent plastic bag may be taken per person. When your hand baggage is inspected you will be asked to present the plastic bag for liquids separately. These rules do not apply to the following:
- Baby food to be consumed during the flight
- Medicines to be taken during the flight / provided you have a prescription or attending physician's statement
- Special diet foods to be consumed during the flight
