AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open launched in Bel Ombre

AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open launched this week at Heritage Resorts’ C Beach Club in Bel Ombre, becoming the first tri-sanctioned golf tournament to be endorsed by the Sunshine, Asian and European Tours.

The tournament will be played at the Heritage Golf Club from 7–10 May 2015; one of the 10 best courses in Africa according to broadcaster CNN. With a total prize fund of €1 million – the highest ever to be paid out for a Mauritian tournament – it’s expected to attract some of the top rated golfers from each of the three tours.

In what’s set to be a major event not just for golfing professionals but also for keen spectators around the world, the tournament will play out over four days with results counting towards the individual Tours’ Orders of Merit and Official World Ranking points, the Chase to the Investec Cup and the Race to Dubai. At least 40 professionals from each of the participating tours will make up the 138-man field, along with local invitees and qualifiers.

“It is with great honour that the Mauritius Golf Federation is hosting the three Tours, and playing a key role in organising this one-of-a-kind tournament,” said Christophe Curé, the president of the Mauritius Golf Federation. “Together with the sponsors of this exciting new tournament, the Open will play a pivotal role in helping us to grow the game of golf on the island and draw the world’s attention to our outstanding courses. This tournament promises to be a world class golfing event, and we look forward to welcoming the golfers and fans alike to the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open in May next year.”
