Playing golf in Mauritius

As one of the world’s ultimate island destinations, where a volcanic landscape combines with tropical rainforest and white sand beaches, it’s little wonder our luxurious golf resorts are such a hit with long haul golf travellers.

Many courses have been designed by leading architects and prominent golfers including Ernie Els, Bernhard Langer and Peter Matkovich. They present genuine challenges to golfers of all stripes, with plenty of well-designed oceanfront holes and expertly incorporated water hazards.

It goes without say that the warm temperatures, low rainfall and soft ocean breezes make for ideal playing conditions, but aside from all that, the views are simply extraordinary. So for those who’ve been instrumental in the development of Mauritius’ golf industry, it come as no surprise to see an increasing number of events like the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open take place, attracting plenty of big name players in the process.

A world first

AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

Taking place over four days, the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open is the first tournament ever to be tri-sanctioned by the Sunshine, European and Asian tours.

The event plays out at the much admired Heritage Golf Club from 7–10 May, where the course consists of two loops of nine holes – an outer loop measuring 3210m and an inner loop of 3297. This variety allows players to take advantage of all facets of their game, and the naturally hilly terrain makes it a fun but formidable challenge.

Whether you’re taking part, spectating from the sidelines or one of the 423 million households watching the action unfold on live tv, you can keep up to date with all the latest tournament news and views by following along with the #MeetInMauritius hashtag on our social media channels.

We’re proud to be one of the tournaments’ major sponsors, so join us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as we report from what’s sure to become a major addition to the Mauritius golfing calendar.
