Lovely things to eat and drink in Cape Town

Described in World Travel Guide as the ‘foodie capital of South Africa’, here are ten things the piece recommends you sample if you’re visiting. Mulva Pudding in Cape Town - foodie heaven

Braai means barbeque and it’s 'a national sport, a religion even', says the piece. And boerewors are the seasoned beef and pork sausages they may well offer you.

Biltong is dried, cured meat and a favoured trekking snack. It may be beef, it may be ostrich. A gatsby is a ‘super sandwich’ – foot-long, filled with fries, meat, eggs, salad.

Wild game includes crocodile, kudu, ostrich, springbok. And bobotie is curried meat, raisin and creamy egg. Yum.

Or, of course, you can opt for fish and chips: try battered hake, yellowtail, snoek…

For dessert, malva pudding is a soft sponge cake with apricot and cream, served hot with ice cream or custard.

To wash all these down, rooibos tea is caffeine-free. Or of course, there’s excellent wine, including ‘South Africa’s signature variety’, says the piece, Pinotage.
