My favourite beach view

The stunning coastline and lagoon that surrounds Mauritius can make choosing the right spot for your beach holiday a touch overwhelming. Should you opt for the picture-perfect coves of the north, with their proximity to great shopping and dining at Grand Bay? Or head to the gorgeous pure white sands and luxury resorts of the east? Or perhaps you’d prefer the showstopping sunsets and shallow waters of the western coast, or the amazing wind- and kite-surfing opportunities of the Le Morne peninsula?

Whichever you choose, the one thing you can be assured of is that you’re unlikely to be disappointed. To give you an extra dose of inspiration, we’ve asked the general managers of some of the leading hotels on the island to share the best things about the views they get to look at every day.

Zilwa Attitude

Just above Grande Gaube on the island’s northern tip, is recently-opened rustic chic hotel Zilwa Attitude, which prides itself on its 100% Mauritian concept and authenticity. Our insider’s best tip? “Located right on the beach, Lor Disab bar at Zilwa Attitude offers a breathtaking view over the Northern Islands, and is the ideal place to enjoy the house Mojito.”

Angsana Balaclava

Over on the northwestern side of the island, Angsana Balaclava Mauritius offers some of the most romantic accommodation in the country, so you can “feel like you’re on your own secluded island while listening to the whisper of the waves from your peninsula beachfront pool suite veranda or bathroom.”

Heritage Resorts

Heritage - beach view

With three different resorts to choose from, picking the finest view is not easy. But Heritage Resorts’ managing director Jean-Luc Naret cherishes one in particular. “My favourite beach view is at the C Beach Club, just besides Heritage Telfair,” he says. “It is just magnificent. It is truly ‘the place to B, the place to C’.”

Le Meridien Ile Maurice

Le Meridien - beach view

Back in the northwest, it’s hard to go wrong at Le Meridien Ile Maurice as the entire resort is fronted by almost a kilometre of dazzling ivory sands. Viewed through the canopy of the hotel’s lush jungly gardens, the scene is set for a perfect romantic idyll or serene getaway.
