The Guardian explores Mauritius beyond the beach

Zilwa Attitude

We’ve written before about new hotel Zilwa Attitude and its architect Jean-Marc Eynaud; the man responsible for its back-to-basics good looks. And it seems his rustic chic design – a hymn to traditional Mauritian and Creole culture – has struck a chord with guests, who appreciate how the resort reflects the beauty of the local environment.

But more than that, the hotel has captured the imagination of its residents by encouraging them to explore the real Mauritius beyond the hotel, as journalist Rachel Dixon discovered in her recent piece for the UK Guardian.

Sunrise boat trips with local fishermen, and dinner at the home of the bar manager’s parents were just two of the excursions she took part in during her trip. Other highlights included lessons in Creole and rum-making back at the hotel.

If you’re in search of a holiday with a high authenticity factor, read the Guardian article in full – or find out more about Zilwa Attitude’s ‘Islander’ concept on the hotel’s website.
