Greens under the sun

The impeccable greens extend between the sea and the mountains. Beyond its traditional postcard image, Mauritius is full of surprises for golf lovers, offering it superb golf courses that can satisfy the most demanding.
Under British colony, Mauritius became the third country in the world- after England and India- where golf was played. The Gymkhana Club inaugurated in 1902 for British officers in Vacoas, was also the first golf club established in the southern hemisphere.
Golf infrastructure has changed significantly since then. Tourism operators have invested in building top -level golf courses to USPGA standards and designed by famous names like Rodney Wright, Peter Allis, Gary Player and Hugh Baiocchi. The island now offers a dozen courses including the greens attached to hotels. During more recent years some golf estates were created.
The landscapes are spectacular and the courses offer various difficulty levels. Whether it is spread at the foot of an imposing mountain, or built on an islet which can only be accessed by boat or helicopter, or in the middle of a former deer reserve among majestic lakes and vast fairways leading to incredible holes next to the lagoon, the stunning beauty of our golf courses promises a memorable experience.
Tournaments favour the Pro-Am, providing an opportunity for amateurs to mix with renowned players. Most of these golf courses include luxurious clubhouses and high-cuisine as well as golf academies for game improvement within breath-taking natural settings.
