Ten days of music and creativity
The Musts
A ten-day event to enjoy opera, creativity and entertainment. Do not miss the rendez-vous with the Mauritius Opera festival opening on 13th September. The producers are presenting La Traviata as the major event of the festival and shall create a journey through time to the 20s, including a fashion competition and a fancy dress ball.

After the successful performances of The Pearl Fishers in 2009 and Carmen in 2010, Opera Mauritius is offering La Traviata this year, an Italian opera by Giuseppe Verdi. Directors Ludivine Petit (France) and Gerard Sullivan (Mauritius) have chosen to stage this love story in Paris during the Roaring Twenties. Mauritian soprano Véronique Zuel-Bungaroo will play the main part Violetta, while music has been entrusted to the orchestra from Region Reunion under the baton of German conductor Martin Wettges.
The festival will be opened with a fashion competition on the theme of the 20s and the participation of young Mauritian designers. La Traviata will be shown on 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22 September at the MGI auditorium, to be decorated by vintage cars and old photos.

Among other events, you will have the opportunity to attend a grand symphony concert on Saturday 15th September with pieces from Bartok, Milhaud and Ravel, a Youth orchestra and children choir concert on 20th September, a fancy dress ball in the mood of the Roaring Twenties on 21st September and three conferences given by musicologist Alessandro Di Profio, and by Belgian director Gilbert Deflo.
