Air Mauritius launches two new African routes

Air Mauritius takes off on its inaugural direct flight from Maputo today as part of an exciting network extension in Africa. On Friday a second direct inaugural flight from Dar-es-Salaam will also launch – these flights will use the hub of Mauritius to feed the Air Corridor between Mauritius and Singapore.

7 step plan - Air Mauritius

With these new destinations, Air Mauritius will have 26 weekly flights to the African continent. It now offers 17 flights to Johannesburg per week, 3 to Cape Town, 3 to Durban and 3 to Nairobi.

Megh Pillay, CEO of Air Mauritius, said: "African economies are showing remarkable resilience to the global crisis. They are having a growth rate higher than the global average. Thus, the extension of our network on the continent responds to a demand for more air connectivity. These new services will contribute to the strengthening of the Air Corridor linking Africa and Asian destinations using the hubs of Mauritius and Singapore.”

In other exciting news, Air Mauritius’ Amedee Maingard lounge won the ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport Lounge’ at the 2016 edition of the World Travel Awards for its world-class facilities. This is another mark of recognition for our dedication to an authentic Mauritian welcome, from the beginning of a customer’s journey right to the end.

Lastly, Air Mauritius has launched an online duty free shopping service where goods ordered will be delivered to Customers on board their flight. Megh Pillay said: “The online duty free shopping is yet another enhancement to our offering and will improve the service provided to our customers using this facility.”
