Festival Kreol 2013

Not so long ago, tourists would often circumvent a destination if a festival was taking place, fearing large crowds and noise, or that they wouldn’t ‘fit in’.

But today’s urbane travellers want to experience a whole lot more than sun, sea and sand. They want to appreciate the soul of where they are, and they love how festivals offer a singular opportunity to feel immersed in a country’s own traditions and spirit – especially at events like Mauritius’s annual Festival Kreol, where honouring the indigenous Creole identity is the festival’s sole raison d’être.

Festival Kreol is a joyous five-day celebration of our diverse Creole culture, with shows and activities held across various parks, beaches and other public areas of the island.

Visitors are invited to join local people from all over the country to enjoy authentic Creole cuisine, Sega music, dance, poetry and other festivities, all culminating in a rousing all-night Gran Konser – or Grand Concert – featuring some of the most popular Creole singers and musicians from across the region.

More information from Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority. And if you're tempted to book a flight for next year's festival, visit the Air Mauritius website.
