How to plan the day after your wedding?

How do you prolong the magic of a destination wedding in Mauritius? After all, you’ve been waiting for this moment for months, so there’s every reason to make it last as long as possible. Fortunately for you, we’ve found plenty of memorable ways to continue the adventure and enjoy some alone-time on the day after your nuptials – below we take a look at some of the best.

Private dining

Even if your Mauritius wedding was on the small side, chances are you didn’t get to spend much time alone together on the day itself. Make up for it the next day by arranging a private dinner where there’s no-one else but you. At Sofitel So Mauritius you can choose from various different private dining experiences, including one where you’re sitting right in the water, while over at Maritim Resort & Spa the Magic Moments programme includes a private bonfire barbecue under the stars.

A couple’s spa experience

On the day after your wedding, there’s every chance you’ll be exhausted, so consider booking a special spa treatment to recharge your batteries for the honeymoon days ahead. Invigorating couples massages are offered at most resorts, or for something more indulgent try a longer, more bespoke experience like the Journey for Two at St. Regis Mauritius Resort, or an afternoon working your way through the trepidarium (warm room), caldarium (steam room) and frigidarium (chilled plunge pool) of the richly-decorated Aura Spa Hammam at Sugar Beach, followed by a partner treatment session in a private room.

Horse riding on the beach

For something more adventurous but equally romantic, a sunset horse ride along the beach is sure to be a memorable experience. Whether you’re an experienced rider or an absolute beginner, the Centre Equestre de Riambel can arrange for you and your beloved to ride along the deserted 2.5km beach at Riambel on the south coast, complete with ocean breeze and the lapping sound of the waves.

A private catamaran sunset cruise

If horses are not your thing but you still want to enjoy a private sunset experience on the water, the obvious option is a tailormade catamaran sunset cruise, many of which also include cocktails and dinner. There are multiple operators offering trips on the island, departing from numerous harbours around Mauritius. Ask at your hotel for a recommendation.

Chauffeur-driven private tour

If you’re the sort of couple who likes to explore beyond the boundaries of your resort, why not spend the day after your wedding being chauffeured around the island at your leisure? Some hotels like the Maradiva Villas Resort & Spa have their own private vehicles, but you can easily arrange for a fully customised private tour with a local driver who will be happy to take you exactly where you want to go.
