Our Brilliant Minds series has covered Mauritian talent that has travelled the globe.  From the world-renowned physicist Dr. Lok C. Lew Yan Voon and Mauritian poet Édouard Maunick to Mauritian brewery entrepreneur Oscar Olsen, world renowned scientist and president of Mauritius Ameenah Gurib-Fakim and 24-year-old singer-songwriter Mélanie René.

Given Mauritius’s culinary strength and diversity, today we’re glad to highlight someone who’s making a name for herself in Australia – Dany from Marguerite Cakes. Dany specialises in beautiful and extraordinary cake creations and when The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall celebrated his 67^th birthday on a visit to Perth it was Dany who made the cake for the special day.

What’s striking about Marguerite Cakes is the level of detail and intricacy that goes into each creation. As one of her reviewers says: “Absolutely scrumptious! Visually stunning and an amazing variety of options. Worth every cent and then some!”

Having started out making wedding and special occasion cakes for family and friends, Dany is now devoting more time to her venture and, quite rightly, getting noticed on an international stage.

We loved her recent Vanilla and pistachio cake with caramel and rose water shards. And the final, magic ingredient? Dany says: “Organic Mauritian vanilla pods used from back home.”
