Café International: The best steaks in Mauritius?

You’ve tried dhal puri and goat curry, breakfasted on unusual tropical fruits and even satisfied your sweet tooth with some napolitains.

But what happens when all you want is a really juicy steak? Our love for Mauritian food is abundantly clear, and in the Flavour section of this blog you’ll discover exactly where to find it. But when the urge for a ribeye takes over, head straight to Café International in Trou aux Biches.

Café International

With its quirky décor, second-hand bookshop, gregarious hosts and relaxed, sporting vibe, this roadside restaurant is one of the most popular eating spots in the north of Mauritius.

Once a bodyguard for Nelson Mandela, restaurant owner Deon Olivier is an affable South African with some stories to tell. Now firmly settled in Mauritius, he pours his time and energy into maintaining the café’s reputation as THE destination for steaks in Mauritius, importing all his meat from South Africa and cooking them under a flame grill for the ultimate in succulence and flavour.

Fans of rugby, soccer and other sports will feel particularly at home. Come with friends to watch a big game in the inside room to the rear, or grab an al fresco table on the shady covered terrace, surrounded by sporting memorabilia and lush planting. Alongside the famous steaks, you’ll also find an extensive menu of fresh fish, burgers, salads, sandwiches, curries, desserts, coffees and an international selection of beers.

Café International can be found on Royal Road, which runs behind Trou aux Biches beach.
