Family holidays: Rooms to accommodate the whole tribe
Organising a family holiday that meets the needs of every member often boils down to whether your accommodation can cater for differing needs. Today’s modern families come in all shapes and sizes – and we’re often travelling in extended, multi-generational groups, too – so finding the right hotel room or villa is probably the most important choice you’ll make. Get it right, and the rest of your trip will be a breeze. Here’s a handful of our favourites to get the ball rolling…
Four Seasons at Anahita
Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita offers accommodation exclusively in pool villas, and 45 of the 136 villas have between two and six bedrooms. The two or three bedroom Garden Residence Villas come with expansive outdoor and indoor space, making them ideal for families with kids in tow. There’s also a lounge and kitchen, plus a terrace, garden and pool (which can be fenced off for younger children) – so there’s no chance you’ll run out of room.
For large or multi-generational families, the two-storey four, five and six bedroom villas feature a dining room, extra spacious lounges, fully serviced kitchens and utility areas. Outside, you’ll find a super-sized garden, private pool and terraced area for al fresco dining. Those staying in one of the two Royal Residence Villas can also kick back on their own private beachfront or upstairs sunlounging terrace, or take a trip out to sea from their personal boat jetty.
Beachcomber’s Trou aux Biches
The three-bedroom villas at Trou aux Biches come with a private pool and sum up the essence of the luxury island lifestyle in Mauritius. The villas feature two master bedrooms with ensuites, plus another bedroom specially designed for children. As guests enter their villa they are greeted by views of their own infinity pool, and the inside space is designed so every room flows seamlessly into another.
The elegant wooden-decked outdoor areas are ideal for refined al fresco living. Families will appreciate the ample space to enjoy time together but also to retreat into a private corner whenever they feel like it. Both master bedrooms look out onto the pool and come with a sumptuous outdoor bathtub or shower, shaded by a gazebo and tropical foliage. The third bedroom sits at the end of a discreet corridor and is tailored to the needs of younger family members.
Families will find an extra special welcome at Sugar Beach, with 24 family units available for those travelling with their whole brood. All the family rooms are elegantly decorated in a contemporary colonial style, with well-planned layouts, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar and LCD flat screen televisions complete with satellite children’s channels in a variety of languages.
At 40 square metres, the rooms can accommodate two adults and two children under 12 or two adults and a third person above 12 years. Cots for babies are also available. Superior and standard connecting rooms can also house two adults in their own room and four children under 12 in the connecting room. You’ll be equally well cared for outside your room too – Sugar Beach is an excellent all-round family resort, with a great nursery, safe areas, Kid’s Club and babysitting service.
Heritage The Villas is one of the island’s best options for large or multi-generational families. Tucked into the hills of Domaine de Bel Ombre, the villas combine vast amounts of space and privacy with all the advantages of a luxury hotel stay. Each has its own pool and the accommodation ranges from the two bedroom villa (each with ensuite bathroom) to the four bedroom villa, which offers up to 450 m2 of living space and can cater for up to eight people. A cot can also be added per room. Just add fast, free broadband, a barbecue area and a full entertainment system with movies on demand, and you have all the right ingredients for the perfect family holiday.
