“La Boutique” is the name given to Mauritians for any small, local shop and it’s a great place to meet locals and get a feel for village life. Time slows down in many of these shops and it’s a nice way for travellers to begin slowing down themselves form the stresses of every day life on holiday.

A recent article in Air Mauritius’s Islander Magazine highlighted the unique qualities of La Boutique including the often surprising and miscellaneous choice of products you can pick up. Visitors will recognise the shops by their often very bright colours and should look for local “gato” (snacks or sweets).
