Island life: Sugar cane and vintage cars
Forbes Africa has published a new article, The Sugar and Petrol That Drives a Farmer, which gives an endearing portrait of islander, Viju Gowreesunkur.
Gowreesunkur, who lives near Central Flacq, owns a number of sugar plantations on Mauritius but his passion is for vintage cars and you’ll often see him driving round the island in one of his Rolls-Royces or cabriolets from another era.
The antique enthusiast apparently has around 50 cars and a member of Mauritius’ Vintage and Classic Car Owners Association (VCCOA). “I love old things, old houses, old furniture… and old cars that make me nostalgic,” says Gowreesunkur.
And as for Mauritius itself? “I enjoy the island life, drinking wine and good food,”he says.
