Le Touessrok reborn: Shangri-La’s latest venture opens 1 November

After an extensive six-month renovation of one of the best known hotels in Mauritius, Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa finally opened its doors on 1 November.

Le Touessrok

Set on the sweeping curve of Trou d’Eau Douce Bay on the island’s east coast, this long-established resort has been fully reimagined. The 200-room property features sublime Indian Ocean views from every guestroom, suite and villa, and its own private island, Ilot Mangénie, offers 3.5 kilometres of white sand beach with on-island butlers and an elegant beach club.

The look and feel has been brought bang up to date too, with a reinvention of its tropical bohemian theme to include more contemporary styling. Organic and natural materials reference the diverse cultures of Mauritius – from mountains and rainforests to deep blue lagoons – with flourishes of European glamour to seal the overall Mediterranean-style village vibe.

New dining and bar concepts steal the show, from rum and Tiki bar Sega which showcases local seggae, blues and jazz talents, to Republik Beach Club & Grill, with its buzzing beach lounge and barbecue favourites. But regular guests will be pleased to hear that acclaimed Indian restaurant Safran remains at the heart of the resort, continuing to serve its raved-about 15-plate set menu to discerning diners.

A redesigned Chi spa – the in-house brand of Shangri-La – replaces the previous Givenchy spa, and the 18-hole Bernhard Langer-designed Le Touessrok golf course on Ile aux Cerfs remains the world-renowned championship course it always was.
