Mauritian Style Snapshot

Style-hound? You won’t find it hard to find great designer looks in Mauritius, whether you’re staying in a small-scale boutique hotel or an extensive beach resort. From colonial-style classics to sleek modern lines and everything in between, it’s easy to find a venue to match your own personal idea of design heaven. Here’s a few of our favourites to whet your appetite…

Maritim Resort & Spa

Maritim Resort & Spa style

With oodles of living space filled with chic, laid-back furnishings, plus your own private infinity pool, garden and terrace, the Maritim Villa at the Maritim Resort & Spa is the epitome of tropical seaside style. Sleeping up to six guests, there are few places on the island where you can relax in such serenity, and a new exclusive VIP package includes a tailor-made butler service and a ‘Gourmet Dine Around’ pass, as well a brunch at the beautiful Château Mon Désir and privileged access to a dedicated VIP beach.

The Château Mon Désir

The Château Mon Désir style

And talking of the château, this à la carte gourmet restaurant overlooking the ruins of Balaclava is recognised across the island as the fine dining address of Mauritius. Set in a colonial-style mansion in the heart of the Maritim Resort & Spa, the Château Mon Désir welcomes hotel and non-hotel guests to its elegant dining room, which features hardwood floors, chandeliers, exposed brickwork and wood beam ceilings.

Chef Rakesh Munoruth and his team offer a multitude of culinary events throughout the year, including the ‘Best Steaks of the World’ festival in November, and the famous Gourmet Days, which take place throughout January, featuring the German 3-Michelin-starred Chef Harald Wohlfahrt.

Long Beach

Long Beach style

The contemporary lines and architectural angles of Long Beach Golf & Spa Resort on the east coast make for multiple stylish spots throughout the resort. We particularly love the temple of calm that is the Hammam at the Sea Spa; a blissed-out oasis with lava rock walls. We’re also fans of the modern, atmospheric decor of the gastronomic Japanese restaurant Hasu, with its carved wooden screens and central Yakitori counter, and the warm casual ambiance of Chinese restaurant Chopsticks, lit by contemporary lanterns hanging from the open rafters of a thatched ceiling.

Four Seasons Anahita

Four Seasons Anahita style

Following a 12-week Resort closure, Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita re-opened in August to unveil six new Sanctuary Pool Villas and an extended Presidential Suite. The Sanctuary Pool Villas offer a fresh, contemporary decor, with a spacious indoor lounge and either direct beach access or sweeping lagoon views.

LUX* Belle Mare

Lux-Belle Mare style

The lagoon-style pool of LUX* Belle Mare has to be one of our favourite places for a dip in all of Mauritius. Not only is it reportedly the largest pool on the island, but its sweeping mosaic-clad curves and designer palm-lined terrace are worthy of a glossy magazine photoshoot in their own right.

20 Degres Sud

Style - Hotel 20 Degrees Sud

The intimate Hotel 20 Degres Sud is full of interesting and stylish nooks and crannies, but we especially love the two gorgeous salon-cum-libraries. Not only do they feature curl-up sofas, oversize lamps and row upon row of books, but one opens out onto a secluded swimming pool and the other features its very own aquarium. Is there a better place to chill out during a tropical downpour – or any other time, for that matter? We don’t think so. Outrigger Mauritius

Outrigger Mauritius - style

Located on the oceanfront, the Senior Suites and Villa of Outrigger Mauritius boast a large bathroom, offering a spectacular round bathtub with a garden view and both inside and outside showers.

Outrigger Mauritius Plantation - Style

Nestled away in one of the tropical gardens of Outrigger Mauritius Beach resort and overlooking Mauritius’s sugar cane fields and mountains, The Plantation Club is a lounge exclusively reserved for guests staying in Suites or Villa during the day, and becomes at night a restaurant serving modern Mauritian cuisine. The Plantation Club’s architecture is designed in a colonial style with a wine room that can host exclusive tastings and a tea library telling the story of the island's tea culture. It features also a private pool, outdoor bar and lounge area.
