Mauritius: Beyond the beaches

Mauritius is known for its beautiful beaches but it’s worth looking beyond the sands to explore some of the island’s culture and fit some adventure into your trip.

A recent article in the Deccan Herald shows how this approach can be hugely enjoyable as the writer visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Apravasi Ghat in Port Louis, discovered the history of sugar plantations at Aventure du Sucre and stopped for a while in the vibrant Pamplemousses Garden.

 

It seemed to leave an impression on the writer anyway. 

“If heaven looks even a little like Mauritius, I am ready to book a villa in the neighbourhood of the gods.”
