Not all luxury: enjoy Mauritius on a budget
This piece over on Femina promises ‘5 affordable things to do in Mauritius’ – and they all sound fab.
Belle Mare Beach, it says, ‘is home to some of the best white sands and azure ocean on the island’. And, though much of it is taken up as private beach, there are ‘a few stretches’ where the beach is public and open for all to enjoy.
Or how about visiting the Natural History Museum & Institute – and come face to face with the reconstructed dodo? Or wander round the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden at Pamplemousses? ‘You can hire a knowledgeable guide at the entrance’.
Mahebourg is ‘a beautiful town’ in ‘the south-east corner of Mauritius’, says Femina – and great for boating and snorkeling. National swimming champion and ‘local legend’ Jean-Claude Farla offers reasonable-priced trips on a traditional 22ft pirogue.
And finally, of course, eat. The piece recommends Domaine, Palais de Barbizon and Port Louis Central Market for fabulous food at excellent prices. We couldn’t agree more.
