Port Louis, Mauritius: best 'quality of living' in Africa
Good news. A new 2018 Quality of Living Survey, conducted by Marsh & McLennan Companies, and reported over here on IOL, has voted Port Louis the best overall city for quality of living in Africa.
The Mauritian city is followed in the Mercer Quality of Living survey by Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Port Louis was also voted 83rd in ‘the global rankings’, says IOL, and third on the African continent in a new separate measure of ‘City Sanitation’ (following Victoria and Durban).
‘A city’s place in the rankings is dependent on local living conditions, which are analysed according to a wide variety of factors…’, says IOL. These include: ‘Appropriate infrastructure, health facilities, safety and security’.
The survey is carried out annually – has been since 1994 – and is designed to help multinational organisations ‘to compensate employees fairly when placing them on international assignments’.
