‘Connect and Protect’ focuses on the Echo Parakeet (Alexandrinus eques)

Connect and Protect invites you to discover the Echo Parakeet (Alexandrinus eques), Mauritius’ last native parrot species. It was once reduced to 20 individuals in the 1980s but has rebounced to around 800 through long-term conservation efforts. The species remains vulnerable due to habitat loss, competition from invasive species, and diseases. The Echo Parakeet feeds on various native plants in the Black River Gorges National Park.
