Mauritius: so much more to discover
Another piece here takes up the ‘beyond the beaches’ theme, this one over on The Week, suggests a refreshing mix of alternative activities on Mauritius – which it rightly describes as ‘one of the world’s most fascinating cultural melting pots’.
#1. My Moris walking tour
Billed as ‘a great – not to mention tasty – introduction to how Mauritian food and culture connect’, the three-hour tour is of the island’s capital, Port Louis, as you’re guided ‘by foot through the different quarters’, sampling ‘local delights’ as you go.
#2. Electro-Bike Discovery Tour
The perfect way to explore ‘the island’s less inhabited areas’: these ‘ecologically responsible bike tours allow travellers to experience the unknown and the unexpected, from the comfort of a well-padded saddle.’
#3. Eureka House
Take in the island’s colonial history by visiting it. ‘Dotted around island are perfectly preserved colonial houses, of which Eureka House is a prime example’, says The Week. ‘Situated just south of Port Louis, the Creole mansion is a veritable time machine… ’.
#4. Océane’s sunset catamaran cruise
What better way to relax at the end of the day? The catamaran set out from Black River Bay late afternoon, allowing you to take in the spectacular sunset, along with ‘a Mauritian cocktail made with local rum’. Yum.
