Onboard Connectivity

While we strive for an optimum connectivity experience, the following factors, some beyond our control, may affect the overall experience:

  • Network Availability and Speed:

Please note that you can connect only once the plane has reached an altitude of around 10,000 feet, usually up to 20 minutes after take-off. Likewise, the connection is unavailable at around the same altitude, when the plane is about to land.

The data for onboard connection is transmitted via a slower wireless signal to satellites orbiting the earth approximately 22,000 miles from the earth’s surface, which then bounces back down to the land-based exchange. Therefore, internet access onboard is significantly slower than the high-speed connection normally experienced on land.

  • Bandwidth:

To help your data last longer, please refrain from using data-intensive applications such as video streaming. For this reason, we request your understanding on aspects such as software updates being disabled onboard.

  •  Coverage:

While we endeavour to ensure that Inflight Wi-Fi is normally available while the aircraft is in the cruise phase during your flight, we cannot guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error free during the course of your flight. Since the use of Inflight Wi-Fi is subject to regulatory approval in the airspace above each country, depending on the particular flight path, there may be some temporary suspension. The service will be restored when the aircraft leaves that airspace.

This map outlines the coverage area:

  • System failure and others:

Note that access to Inflight Wi-Fi may also be suspended temporarily and without notice in the case of system failure, or for other reasons beyond our control.

Our cabin crew is pleased to assist you with optimising your Wi-Fi experience. Please turn to them in case you face any issues, but do take note the availability and quality of internet service is not within their control.
