When it comes to finding the hiking places in Mauritius, you’ll have to put your badass traveller hat on. Ask the locals, venture upriver, make a few scrambles – get creative!

Hiking the Mountains in Mauritius

Where to start the hike: There are a few options for climbing Le Pouce.

The standard place to start the hike is from Petit Verger near the village of Saint Pierre. It’s easy to access by bus and Maps.Me has you covered for finding the trailhead or just ask the locals.  You can also climb Le Pouce from Port Louis; the south side behind the racecourse. There’s a trail beginning from either Chateau d’Eau Street or the street parallel to Pouce Street.
