UN visits Mauritius to launch Travel Enjoy Respect campaign

The United Nations 70th General Assembly has designated 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. Travel Enjoy Respect campaign

The UNTWO, the United Nations Specialised Agency for Tourism, is organising the International Year, in collaboration with governments, relevant organisations of the United Nations system, and international and regional organisations.

In was in this spirit to increase awareness, knowledge and engagement with this important project that Mr Taleb D. Rifai, Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organisation, came to Mauritius to launch the ‘Travel Enjoy Respect’ campaign to coincide with Air Mauritius’s 50 years anniversary celebration.

Mr Taleb D. Rifai was joined by Air Mauritius Chairman, Dr Arjoon Sudhoo who welcomed the participants. The Minister of Tourism, Honourable Anil Gayan and Air Mauritius CEO, Somas Appavou also addressed the audience.

The new Travel Enjoy Respect campaign aims to increase public awareness of the vital role tourism plays in its contribution to sustainable development. There will be a number of #TravelEnjoyRespect and #IY2017 initiatives in 2017 to help share this news.
