PASSENGERS TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN
Air Mauritius ensures that children enjoy a comfortable and seamless journey similar to our adult passengers.
Our young flyers are those who lie between the age of 2 and less than 12 years on the date of travel.
Preparing young flyers for a special journeyWho says kids can’t aspire to the same perks as grown-ups? Our young flyers get the same baggage allowance as our adult passengers. In addition, we let parents bring on carry cots, prams and baby-buggies till the boarding gate, at which point these special items are folded away and placed in the hold for use upon arrival. If you booked a seat for your child, you may also bring an inflight bed/ leg-rest extension such as a Bed-Box, Fly Tot, 1st Class Kid Travel Pillow or Plane Pal, among others. For more details, see our special conditions section.
Seats for our young flyers are also allocated in advance. To avoid any potential discomfort to our young flyers, we ensure that children are not seated in emergency exit rows.
Nothing says welcome like toys and gamesOur on-board hospitality kits for your children* are custom made to ensure that your kids have a great experience during their flight with Air Mauritius. Apart from a furry friend, children are provided with fun games and accessories such as puzzles, colouring sheets and colourful origami paper so they can let their imagination soar as high as our planes.
*Available on all flights except to Reunion and Rodrigues
Say cheese for our special mealsKids can’t stop smiling when our special children meals land up on their tray tables. Please book your child’s meal at least 24 hours prior to the flight to ensure your child gets his choice of meal on board.
To do so, please go to Manage My Booking and choose the corresponding special meal. You may alternatively contact the call centre. Please check our special child's meals page to shortlist the meal that best suits your infant's tastes and preferences.
Endless entertainment for young flyersKids can spend endless hours on board our flights while keeping boredom at bay thanks to our dedicated children’s in-flight entertainment. Our young flyers can choose from a huge collection of the latest kids’ TV shows and popular cartoons that are specially selected to entertain and delight young minds.*
*Available on selected flights
Special Conditions for inflight bed & leg-rest extensions
We are happy for you to use Inflight bed/ leg-rest extensions* for your child as long as they are not attached directly to the seat. Note that the use of devices such as Fly LegsUp or FlyeBaby that need to be attached directly to the seat are not allowed, as they constitute a risk to your child’s safety in case of an emergency flight landing.
*Available on selected flights
Our top priority being to ensure your safety and comfort on board, we request that you use your child’s inflight bed/ leg-rest extensions while taking the following recommendations into consideration:
Please make sure that your child’s head is pointing towards the tail of the aircraft, in order to be able to use the seat belt securely.
Kindly use window seats for such child care accessories and avoid using emergency exit rows, aisle or middle seats.
Please pack and securely stow your device in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front during taxi, take-off and landing or when instructed by the crew.
For the comfort of your fellow passengers, we request that you ensure that your device does not interfere with or prevent the seat in front from reclining and to avoid combining these devices to occupy more than one seat.
Finally, we request you to note that if your child is under two years of age, he or she must be removed from the inflight bed/ leg-rest, and secured with an infant seat belt whenever the seat belt sign is switched on, with their safety in mind.
Guidelines for using a Child Restraint Device (Car seat, Child harness) on boardYou may use a Child Restraint Device which includes car seats or upper torso harnesses for your infant/ child on flights operated by Air Mauritius. Conditions apply. Please inform us at the time of booking or contact us for more information.
Note: This facility is not available on our domestic flights to Rodrigues, short-haul flights to Reunion or in business cabins across Air Mauritius flights. For codeshare flights operated by partner airlines, acceptance will be in accordance with the partner airlines’ rules. For medical or reduced mobility cases requiring special seats, we request you to contact our reservations agents.
For the safety and comfort of your little one, we request you to follow these recommendations that are based on best practices for using a Child Restraint Device (CRD) on board an Air Mauritius aircraft:Please inform us of your intention to use a CRD for your child at the time of booking. A seat must be reserved if you wish to use a car seat for your infant.
For the safety and comfort of your child, the CRD should be marked/ labelled as certified for use on an aircraft by a National Aviation Authority and/or meet any of the following standards:
- European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) ETSO-C100b
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) TSO-C100, TSO-C100a, TSO-C100b, or TSO-C100c
- European Safety Standard requirements of ECE Regulation 44
- United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS 213
- Australia/New Zealand Standard (AS/NZS) 1754
For practical considerations such as the maximum size our seats can accommodate, we accept car seats of a maximum external seat width of 17 inches/43 cm on European flights. For other routes, the external seat width of the car seat should not exceed 16 inches/40.6 cm.
We recommend that a child harness only be used for children of 1 year and older who weigh between 22 and 44 pounds and are up to 40 inch tall.
Please ensure that your child’s weight and height are in conformity with the manufacturer’s specifications and that the car seat is installed strictly as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Please ensure that the CRD is in good functioning condition.
For safety reasons, you will be allocated a suitable window seat for your child’s CRD.
We will provide a form of indemnity for your signature at check-in.
If the CRD does not meet the above safety standards and certifications, Air Mauritius reserves the right to refuse to carry it in cabin and may require you to check it in as luggage instead. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused to you or your little ones.
