Amsterdam's new Golden Age
Amsterdam today may surprise you. According to this ‘Complete Guide’ by Condé Nast Traveler, in recent times, ‘the city hasn’t so much reinvented itself as rediscovered itself’.
It’s scrubbed up and washed down, and renovated old sites into new galleries or restaurants.
‘The result is a new and improved Amsterdam that looks a lot like a throwback to its 17th century Golden Age, when the city reigned as a cultural center.’
There’s all the information you could possibly want over in the Condé Nast Traveler Mini Guides – including of course where to stay – the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is described as ‘The Best New Hotel in Amsterdam’, for instance – where to eat and where to shop.
But also more of the detail: coffee shops, spas, and of course, being Amsterdam, where to cycle! ‘It’s almost a shame not to see the city on two wheels’, explains the Guide.
Why not try Frederic Rent a Bike?
Or treat yourself to a stay in a super-cool hotel? Hôtel Droog? Or The Dylan?
‘Revel’, says Condé Nast Traveler, ‘in Dutch design and hospitality against the backdrop of the city’s canal and museum district’.
Amsterdam today is a glorious place to visit.
