Mauritius: A food tradition through the ages
We loved an article in CNN this month ‘Mauritius: The island where food is everywhere’, which highlighted the diverse range of cuisine on the island.
“Food is everywhere, whether it's dhal puri vendors selling bites of curry rolled into a roti, steaming pots of biryani, or Chinese guavas plucked from shrubs along the roadside,” the article says.
“On the weekends, neighborhood food markets spring up across the island, at beaches and in neighborhoods where stalls sell chutneys, sugar cane juice or dim sum.”
Interviewing Marie Anne Lacour about her cooking at Chez Tino, she describes the different influences which make up Mauritian cuisine. But mostly, she says: "It's about love."
