An air waybill or AWB is a document with a unique number that accompanies goods shipped by an international courier, and facilitates tracking. It serves as a receipt of goods by an airline, as well as a contract of carriage between the shipper (forwarder) and the carrier (airline). The AWB is a legally binding document enforceable by law. An Air Waybill is essential for a smooth and efficent journey for your cargo.
The e-AWB, or electronic air waybill, serves as a digital alternative and replaces the traditional paper waybill. It provides information about the shipment and outlines the conditions under which it is being transported.

e-AWB is the default contract of carriage for all air cargo shipments on enabled trade lanes. However, the acceptance procedure for eAWB varies from one country to another. Please consult IATA eAWB customs acceptance or IATA matchmaker.
To use an e-AWB, you will need to sign the Multilateral e-AWB Agreement (Resolution 672).
This signifies the freight forwarder's and airline's commitment to conducting e-AWB transaction and indicates their agreement to adhere to the terms and conditions outlined in the Agreement for conducting electronic business.
Air Mauritius has adopted the IATA Multilateral Agreement (RP672). To sign the Multilateral Agreement, please submit the Multilateral Agreement submission form to IATA. The notice can be accessed from the IATA e-AWB website.
A House Air Waybill (FHL) is a transportation contract issued by a freight forwarder and covers the transportation of goods from the shipper (consignor) to the consignee. The house air waybills (FHL) can travel with the document pouch; however we encourage our customers to use the FHL message in place of the physical house air waybill whenever possible.
Data quality is essential for the successful implementation of e-AWB. If you need assistance with data quality testing or have any questions regarding messaging, please feel free to reach out to our Cargo System Team at [email protected]
Air Mauritius is capable of both sending and receiving version 16 for FWB messages and version 4 for FHL.
