Mauritius in December
December always seems to come around quickly, and along with the usual festive activities we’re looking forward to some sultry weather and time on the beach. Visitors can expect high-season temperatures of around 28–30 degrees celsius with nine hours of sunshine per day. Humidity will be fairly high but brief tropical rainshowers can be relied upon to clear the air. Keen diver or snorkeller? The period between December and March offers the clearest waters of the year.
5–6 December: Mauritius Raid Trophy
In association with LUX* Sports, the first edition of the Mauritius Adventure Raid Trophy takes place over the first weekend of December. “La Mauricienne” is a trail running event which covers around 30km in the Valley of Luchon, starting and finishing in Domaine de Chazal. The race is open to individuals and teams of three, who’ll get to explore the great unspoiled wilderness of southern Mauritius during their challenging endeavour.
11–13 December: Hare Krishna Waterfront Festival
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, the annual Hare Krishna Waterfront Festival is set to return for its 8th annual outing in December. Taking place at the L’esplanade Waterfront in Mahebourg, the event features an open air youth concert, a kids’ corner, cooking demonstrations and a question and answer session, in addition to plenty of vegetarian snacks and fireworks, plus a Radha Krishna boat festival on the Sunday.
12 December: Motors Festival Mauritius 2K15
Presented by We Are Racing, the #MotorFest 2K15 in Port Louis is set to showcase the latest advancements in the world of motoring, including national launches and announcements from leaders in the industry. Enthusiasts will be able to get up close to all kinds of sports, luxury, performance, modified and vintage cars, along with some SUVs, ATVs, quads and superbikes. There will also be plenty of live music, demonstrations and free gifts, along with some handpicked talent in the world of street art.
20 December: White Afternoon
Taking place at the Oasis complex in Flic en Flac, the electronic music event known as White Afternoon returns for a festive afternoon and evening of pumping tunes and the best island DJs. Get December going and finish off the year in euphoric style – and don’t forget to wear your finest whites.
27 December: Labourdonnais Music Festival
Organised by Live Nation and set in the gorgeous grounds of Chateau Lebourdonnais, the local music scene welcomes big names of French music to the island for the annual Labourdonnais Music Festival, including award-winning singer Christophe Willem, 17 year old singer-songwriter Marina Kaye, in-demand record spinner DJ Assad, and popular female trio LEJ. There will also be a typical Mauritian craft market on site, showcasing a range of homegrown products.
